Beer & Business

In General on April 23, 2010 at 1:39 pm

I spent my morning yesterday at The Brewery complex in Jamaica Plain.  The Brewery, previously an abandoned brewery, was developed and is owned by the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation (JPNDC). The Brewery is home to dozens of small businesses, with Boston Beer Co. (brewer of Samuel Adams beer – no longer a “small” biz) being the most well known tenant. JPNDC has brought a variety of emerging and exciting business to the Brewery complex.  The complex represents one of the most exciting clusters of small businesses in the area – from Neuestra Culinary Ventures to Ula Cafe, Bella Luna / Milky Way Lounge, Tony William Dance Center and Amir’s Natural Foods. The project is a testament to what both good community economic development and real estate development is all about.

model of the entire complex as it was in early 1900s. All buildings have been rehabbed and are now home to over 50 small businesses.

  1. You should look into the development at 60 Island St in Lawrence. A very similar concept, a complex of old mill buildings converted into cool space housing hundreds of small business.
